Among the myriad of Cornell sports teams competing this weekend, the women’s fencing team also will be facing three tough opponents in its second competition of the season this Sunday.

The event will be held in the Field House.

The Red will face Sacred Heart, Cleveland State and Case Western reserve, as it looks to improve on last year’s 8-8 overall record.

Last weekend at the Temple Open, Cornell turned some heads with some outstanding individual performances.

Senior captain Helen Rajfer placed third in the foil competition, with fellow senior Patricia Bluemenauer finishing eighth in the epee. Freshmen Erica Gale and Rachel Lee were both very impressive in their first collegiate competition. Lee finished 14th in the foil, while Gale finished 15th in the epee.

The Red finished 24th last year at the NCAA Championships, and eighth at the Intercollegiate Fencing Association championships.

After Thanksgiving there are only two more competitions before it potentially goes on a break until the beginning of February.

The next fencing action will be December 2, when the Red takes on the Bulldogs of Yale.
