Test Spin: Math and Science

Print More

Now that classes are in full swing, what better time for Math and Science to debut? A one man show powered by ex- P.J. Olsson drummer John Wolf, Math and Science’s eponymous debut veers strongly in the direction of pompous college pop.

On songs like “Naked,” the listener can almost hear Wolf smirking in appreciation of his own intellect. Throughout the rest of Math and Science, Wolf sounds like Mellow Gold-era Beck, that is, if Beck could actually sing. At the same time, he steers clear of the white boy rap that has been the focus of Beck’s best work.

While Math and Science definitely doesn’t lack potential, it’s kind of difficult to embrace an artist who may or may not be laughing at you.
