Before the Cornell softball team opened its season last weekend, its three pitchers had only pitched a combined 180 innings — all of which were thrown by junior Whitney Smith. While Smith comes off a year in which she went 15-4 with a 2.29 ERA and 68 strikeouts, she is going to need some support on the mound if the Red are going to repeat as Ivy League champions.
