David J. Skorton will be inaugurated as Cornell’s 12th president Sept. 7, the University announced yesterday. The ceremony will take place on the Arts Quad at 3:30 p.m. and will be followed by a community-wide reception. In the case of rain, the ceremony and reception will be held in Barton Hall.
Skorton, a cardiologist, computer scientist, national leader in research ethics and jazz musician, will leave his position as president of the University of Iowa to replace Interim President Hunter R. Rawlings on July 1.
He will hold a faculty position in internal medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College in New York City, and will be a member of the Engineering College’s Department of Biomedical Engineering on the Ithaca campus.
