The Relationship of Geology to Wine in the Finger Lakes, NY
This talk discusses how the geologic history of our landscape has a direct impact on growing grapes in the Finger Lakes region. By studying the sediment present in several local vineyards, we have learned much about
the areas glacial and deglacial history. Tara will discuss some of the physical factors such as the position of ancient lake shorelines and deltas that influence the character and quality of wine, and demonstrate the importance of understanding the physical environment as one essential element of the terroir of the Finger Lakes region.
