Display Advertising

Established in 1880, The Cornell Daily Sun is one of the nation’s oldest, fully independent daily college newspapers. The Sun is the largest paper at Cornell, reaching an estimated readership of 16,000, and is distributed for free in over fifty locations around campus, including dining halls, academic facilities and dormitories, as well as in Collegetown and the surrounding Ithaca area. More than 57% of students read The Sun at least twice a week, and more than 66% of our readers indicate that advertisements in The Sun have prompted them to make purchases. This type of exposure to Cornell’s academic and social community is not available with any other publication on campus or in the greater Ithaca region.
Advertisers can place display or classified advertisements in the print edition of The Cornell Daily Sun. Advertisements in The Sun range from business card-size ads to quarter-page and full-page ads. Additionally, advertisements can be run in colored or non-colored variants on nearly any page of the newspaper. Discounted rates are available to contracted advertisers (weekly or open rates available), clubs and organizations that advertise through the Student Assembly Finance Commission or the Dean of Students.

Classified Advertising

Standard Rate
The Cornell Daily Sun’s standard classified advertisements cost $3.20 per day for the first 15 words and 30¢ per word thereafter.
For 5 or more consecutive insertions: $2.95 per day for first 15 words and 29¢ per word thereafter.

Commercial Rate
The Cornell Daily Sun’s commercial rate is $5.00 per day for the first 5 words and 31¢ per word thereafter.
For 5 or more consecutive insertions: $4.80 per day for the first 15 words, and 28¢ per word thereafter.

Inserts

Inserts must be prepared by the advertiser and given to the Corning Leader (clearly labeled for The Cornell Daily Sun) at least one full week before publication. Inserts must be reserved with the Advertising Manager or the Office Manager at least 2 weeks before publication. The cancellation deadline for inserts is 4 days before publication.

The Sun will accept a maximum of 5,000 inserts; rates are per 1,000 inserts. A minimum commitment of one semester is needed to receive frequency discounts, which are offered via monthly, weekly and bi-weekly rates. Please note that inserts may not count towards fulfilling display advertising contracts.

Submission Requirements
An advertising copy must be received by The Cornell Daily Sun by 3 p.m. two business days before publication. If a proof is desired, a copy must be received by The Sun by 3 p.m. three business days before publication. Add one business day to these deadlines for advertisements of more than one page or if the advertisement requires extraordinarily complex composition. Any cancellation must be received two business days prior to publication. Please note that we require pre-payment for first-time advertisers for both the print and online version of The Sun.

Placement
Page and position requests are accepted but not guaranteed, except for comic page advertisements. Advertisements may be placed on The Cornell Daily Sun’s comic page if the advertisements are 4 columns by 2 inches, 4 columns by 4 inches or 1 by 16 inches. Please note that an alternate rate applies.

Terms and Conditions
The Cornell Daily Sun has the right to reject any advertising copy for any reason it deems sufficient. Advertisers must agree to indemnify The Sun, Inc. against any loss suffered by running any of the advertisements or parts thereof, because of any legal actions for libel, business slander, invasion of privacy, infringement of copyright or any other tort, crime or violation of law or regulation whatsoever, and to take due precautions to ensure that any advertisement The Sun inserts will be free from all such liability.
