Of Montreal

Continuing their shift toward more electronic based music, Georgia’s Of Montreal, cooks up a wild mix of instruments and sounds in their latest effort, Hissing Fauna, Are You The Destroyer? Their newest album is an impressive assemblage of genres including rock, techno, hip hop, and funk. The music truly mirrors the lyrics on tracks such as the dark “Cato as a Pun,” about a lost friend. The theme of this album is varied as extremes are pushed to their limits in the realms of song length, mood, tone, and lyrical content. Storytelling songs such as “Bunny Ain’t No Kind of Rider” use names of specific people to bring you into the songwriter’s mind, while “Suffer for Fashion” simply comments on a general theme. Singer, Kevin Barnes experiments with his voice as an instrument, showing incredible range, melody, rhythm and flow — a sound as diverse as the music. This album is not to be missed.
