CUPD Steps Up Traffic Enforcement

Beginning today (Aug. 5), the Cornell Police Department will place special traffic details at all intersections on central campus as part of National Stop on Red Week.
“Red light and stop-sign runners, speeders and motorists who fail to yield right of way to pedestrians will receive the focus of this zero-tolerance enforcement effort,” Sgt. Chuck Howard of CUPD stated in a press release.
National Stop on Red Week, sponsored by the Federal Highway Administration and the American Trauma Society, is designed to educate drivers about the dangers of running a red light.
The CUPD wrote 53 tickets for running red lights, 134 tickets for not stopping at stop signs and 144 speeding tickets during the 2006-2007 school year, according to a press release.
