University of Wisconsin at Madison students have been advised to remain indoors under lockdown after a 19-year-old claimed to have a gun and is described as suicidal.

UW police sent an e-mail to Madison students and staff around 6 p.m. that warned them of the situation, according to The Daily Cardinal, a student newspaper.

UWPD Assistant Police Chief Dale Burke said the suspect is Jesse A. Miller, who pleaded no contest in June 2006 to an armed robbery charge and was serving a work-release jail term, according to the Associated Press.
