Oliver S. Schaufelberger ’11 died at his home in Lebanon, New Jersey on Jan. 13. Schaufelberger was an environmental science major in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, and was heavily involved on campus.

He served as an Outdoor Odyssey guide, an environmental science peer adviser, a member of the Cornell Outing Club and a brother in the Kappa Delta Rho fraternity.

“He was a good kid, didn’t partake in unusually risky activities, was a close friend, and a fraternity brother,” wrote Peirce Stern ’10 in an e-mail statement. Stern was a fraternity brother of Schaufelberger’s Kappa Delta Rho.

Schaufelberger moved with his family from Switzerland in 1996, settling in Clinton Township, New Jersey. He went on to play varsity soccer at North Hunterdon High School, showing an early aptitude for environmental sciences in his high school studies. He also volunteered at the Hunterdon Medical Center before being admitted to the University.

A memorial service is being organized on campus for family and friends, but a date has not yet been released. Friends said that the family wishes the cause of death to remain private.
