Seeing its admissions rate drop yet again, Cornell released its admissions results for the Class of 2016 Thursday, accepting a record low of 16.2 percent — or 6,123 applicants — of the 37,812 applications it received this year.
The overall admissions rate for the University decreased from last year’s 18.0 percent while the number of applicants increased 4 percent, according to a University press release. Additionally, the number of students waitlisted increased this year, from 2,988 for the Class of 2015 to 3,120 for the Class of 2016.
Of the admitted students, 19.3 percent were accepted through Early Decision, while 80.7 percent were admitted in Cornell’s Regular Decision pool.
Accepted students come from all 50 U.S. states, Washington D.C., Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Islands. They also hail from 68 countries around the world.
Median SAT scores for the group — 710 for the SAT I Critical Reading test and 740 for the SAT I Math test — were comparable to the Class of 2015.
