A charitable organization on the 300 block of West Buffalo Street was burglarized by a man on Monday evening, according to the Ithaca Police Department. The man was later arrested, police said.

The IPD received notice of the burglary at approximately 8:30 pm Monday. Several officers were immediately dispatched to cover the perimeter of the 300 block building.

The suspect was soon found inside the building after IPD officers located a broken window on the exterior of the building. According to the IPD, a male suspect was found to be in possession of stolen property taken from the charitable organization.

After failing to respond to commands given by the IPD, the suspect smashed another window, left the building and fled the premises on foot, police said. Several officers chased him on foot for a short time. The suspect was then caught and taken into custody. He is being charged with burglary in the third degree for breaking into and robbing the charitable organization, according to the IPD.
