Ithaca Police are investigating a shooting that occurred Sunday night in the 200 block of Elm Street.

On Sunday, Jeremy Grant, a 27-year-old Ithaca resident, was shot three times as he headed back to his home, according to the Ithaca Police Department. Grant’s injuries were not life-threatening, and he is receiving medical care at a regional trauma center, police say.

Witnesses who were in the area say that Grant and the suspect were familiar with each other and may have been arguing before the shooting, which occurred at around 10:48 p.m. Sunday, according to a press release from IPD.

After Grant was shot, he ran into his residence, where he was later found by police. The suspect escaped on foot, according to IPD.

While Grant has been speaking with investigators, he has been reluctant to “identify the suspect or provide complete details regarding what exactly occurred,” the press release said.

Four or five shots from a small caliber handgun were fired, according to a IPD press release.
