Medical examiners have identified the body of a man found in the Hudson River as that of Denis Lukashkov ’15, New York State Police said Tuesday.

In the early hours of Sept. 4, police found Lukashkov’s Honda Accord abandoned on the Tappan Zee Bridge. Police said they believed Lukashkov, 20, might have jumped into the Hudson River after leaving his car, although they added that no witnesses saw anyone jump from the bridge.

Throughout the weekend, authorities used radar and sonar technologies and searched through the Hudson River for signs of Lukashkov, according to Trooper Jason Jones of the New York State Police. Divers retrieved a body from the Hudson in the Village of Dobbs Ferry on Saturday.

Police were unable to make a positive identification on the body until Tuesday.

Lukashkov’s mother told The Journal News that she last heard from her son when he called her on Sept. 3. Lukashkov played video games with friends at Cornell before driving from Ithaca, N.Y. to Westchester County, turning around and stopping his car on the Tappan Zee on Sept. 4, police said.
