Police arrested Wyatt A. Piazza ’16 for selling prescription drugs in Collegetown on Monday, according to a statement released by the Cornell University Police Department.

Piazza, a senior in the School of Hotel Administration, is a student executive chef at the Statler Hotel, according to the Statler Hotel website. He participated in the SHA’s collaborative degree program with the Culinary Institute of America last semester.

Along with staff member Randy Sims, Piazza won the Statler Hotel’s Going the Extra Mile Program in Nov. 2014. He was also a member of Cornell’s Delta Tau Delta, according to the fraternity’s website, but deactivated from the chapter two years ago.

CUPD and Ithaca Police charged Piazza with criminal sale of a controlled substance in the fourth degree, a Class C felony.

The arrest was made after police announced that they were investigating drug sales in Collegetown, according to the release. Piazza was arraigned in Tompkins County and held in the Tompkins County Jail in lieu of $3,500 cash bail or $7,000 bond.

The Ithaca Police Special Investigations Unit, Tompkins County Sheriff’s office and New York State Police Community Narcotics Enforcement Team contributed to the investigation, according to the release.

A previous version of this story identified Wyatt Piazza ’16 as a member of Delta Tau Delta. In fact, he deactivated in 2014 and is no longer a brother of the fraternity.
