Representative Tom Reed (R-NY) announced his support for Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump in a statement Wednesday, citing his faith in the ability of the American people to determine their next leader.

“As the people vote, it has become clear more Republicans favor Donald Trump than any other candidate,” Reed said in a statement. “The United States simply cannot have someone in the White House that will continue the failed foreign policy and economic agenda of Barack Obama.”

Reed’s endorsement follows Congressman Chris Collins’ (R-NY) decision to back Trump last month, becoming the first member of New York’s congressional delegation to endorse the candidate. At the time, Reed had said that there were many qualified Republican candidates, initially supporting Jeb Bush until he dropped from the race, according to TWC News.

However, the congressman has changed his tone, encouraging Republicans to unite behind Trump’s candidacy, saying voters must “move beyond the bombastic rhetoric to positive discussion about creating jobs and improving the lives of all Americans.”

“We all care about improving people’s lives; that should always be our focus,” he said. “I will use my voice to influence all Republican candidates at all levels to focus on issues and positive solutions for all Americans.”
