Yogurtland, the beloved frozen yogurt shop on S. Meadow Street, has announced that it will be closing its doors at the end of the month.

The shop made the announcement on its Facebook page on Nov. 14, adding that the store’s management will “miss [its loyal customers], too.”

Christina, manager of Yogurtland, shared one of her favorite goodbyes the shop has received. “No! Not Yogurtland!” wrote customer Kathy Bush Spencer on the Facebook page. “It is the best of all the frozen yogurt places. It is a great treat for celebrations or commiserations.”

With the upcoming closing of Smart Yogurt on Elmira Road on Dec. 15, Ithaca residents are losing two of their main options for frozen yogurt in under a month. In order to comfort those disappointed by the news, Yogurtland posted that “all of [its] flavors will remain fresh and awesome until the end.”

After Dec. 15, frozen yogurt lovers in Ithaca will only be left with two options — Wild for Yogurt in the Ithaca Mall and Jason’s Grocery and Deli in Collegetown.

Josh Weinstein, owner of Yogurtland, said that the store’s management considered Cornell students when they picked the closing date.

“Part of the reason why we are closing on Dec. 1 is because we wanted to give Cornell students a chance to come in and say goodbye after their Thanksgiving break,” he said. “We want to thank the Cornell community, especially the students.”

Before it closes, Yogurtland will show gratitude to its loyal customers by giving the first 250 guests who come in to say goodbye a collectible keychain and a coupon to be used in another visit to the shop.

Weinstein also noted that after this promotion is over, there will be more to come.

“Anyone who comes in to say goodbye will get something,” Weinstein said. “We want to show our appreciation to our loyal customers.”
