Cornell will hold a moment of silence on Thursday evening to remember Jason Thomas, a first-year student in the Samuel Curtis Johnson Graduate School of Management, who died this week.

Thomas — who was expected to earn a master’s degree in business administration in 2018 — died at his home on Tuesday, Ryan Lombardi, vice president for student and campus life, said in a statement to the Cornell community.

“I want to extend my deepest condolences to Jason’s family, colleagues, and friends,” Lombardi said. “I ask all of you to keep Jason and his family in your thoughts as we mourn this loss in our Cornell family.”

Thomas was a talented student and served as an officer of the Swim, Bike, and Run Club, in addition to his involvement with several other campus organizations, Lombardi said.

The University will hold the moment of silence commemorating Thomas’ life at 5:15 p.m., and members of the Cornell community are encouraged to gather for support in Sage Atrium from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.

A GoFundMe page set up by the Johnson Association of Veterans and the Johnson Student Council has raised more than $34,000 since Wednesday to support Thomas’ wife, Meghan, and their two young children.
