Cornell’s final tally over the weekend left them at 65 over par, 22 strokes behind 12th-place Georgetown.
Cornell escaped Palm Beach Gardens with a one-stroke victory over Ivy League foe Dartmouth. The Red compiled a cumulative score of 295 while the Green carded 296; Brown rounded out the competition with 306 strokes.
The Red needs two wins and some help if it hopes to compete in the Ivy tournament.
Cornell trailed by as many as 13 in the first half, but clawed its way back to beat Brown in overtime.
After Cornell beat the Tigers in triple overtime in Ithaca last season, Princeton picked up an OT win in 2019.
The Red started the second half on a 13-1 run to down former Cornell coach and current Penn coach Steve Donahue’s Quakers.
Matt Morgan passed Ryan Wittman ’10 for first all-time in career scoring in Cornell men’s basketball history.
Although Cornell has won three consecutive meetings with Lafayette, the Leopards hold the overall lead in the series with an 11-10 record against the Red.
“After losing those three games that we felt we should have won, we sat down and watched film and saw what types of errors we were making and what we could be doing better,” junior Lily Barber said. “During practice this week, we started from square one and coach Vande Berg gave everyone a chance to prove they could get the job done. So, by the end of the week, if you were going to play was based on your numbers and statistics from the week of practice.”
“Going forward, ultimately, we just need to convert on our opportunities. Everything is really there for us to be successful, but at the end of the day, we can’t get the outcomes we want unless we score goals.”
