Svante Myrick  ’09 (D) won the election for Mayor of Ithaca with almost 54 percent of the vote. Myrick will be the youngest mayor in Ithaca’s history and its first African-American mayor.

Graham Kerslick won the Common Council election in the Fourth Ward — which includes West Campus and much of Collegetown — with more than 87 percent of the vote. He defeated a write-in campaign by Jessica Reif ’14.

Myrick is currently a Fourth Ward representative — a position to which he was elected while still a student at Cornell.

Wade Wykstra, a commissioner of the Board of Public Works, came in second in the mayoral election, garnering more than 25 percent of the vote. Independence candidate Alderperson J.R. Clairborne (D-2nd Ward) won 13 percent, and Republican candidate Janis Kelly ’71 received less than 7 percent.
