Two residents of a Catherine Street apartment at reported a burglary — with one resident possibly facing several broken bones after a subsequent assault — in Collegetown early Sunday morning, according to police.

A male resident and his roommate were inside their apartment at 109 Catherine St. when they heard their front door opening at approximately 3:00 a.m., police said. Upon examination, the two men discovered several male subjects leaving their apartment with a computer that belonged to one of the residents.

One resident chased the burglars and — upon catching up with them nearly a block away — was punched in the face, police said. The perpetrators then reportedly fled the scene.

The victim who was assaulted was transported to a local hospital, where he was treated for potential broken facial bones, police said.

Both victims described the subjects as black males — two wearing tank-tops and one wearing a t-shirt — police said.

The Cornell University Police Department issued a crime alert Tuesday evening after IPD released a press release regarding Sunday’s incident.

The Ithaca Police Department urges anyone with relevant information about the suspects to contact them at (607) 272-9973.
