A burglary took place at the Delta Tau Delta fraternity early Wednesday morning, according to the Cornell University Police Department.

The suspect entered the rooms of three fraternity members at approximately 5:05 a.m. and took the money out of each of their wallets, according to Garrison Lovely ’16, president of the fraternity. The suspect entered other bedrooms as well, but the wallets in those rooms were hidden, according to Lovely, who was also one of the brothers robbed.

The suspect is thought to have entered the house — located at 104 Mary Anne Wood Dr. — through an open basement window, according to Lovely.

Lovely said the incident changed his perspective on University safety.

“I considered Cornell to be a very safe place, but to know a criminal was in my room while I was asleep is unsettling,” Lovely said.

All of the men robbed have chosen to press charges, according to Lovely.

“I think fraternities are a target for theft because their security is not as tight as a dorm’s, and there are more targets than in an apartment,” Lovely said.

The suspect — who was wearing a gray sweatshirt and was unshaven, with black curly hair — is described as a black male in his early 20s, approximately 5’10” and weighing about 200 pounds, according to Cornell police.
