Eduardo Peñalver ’94 will replace current dean Stewart Schwab as the next dean of the Cornell Law School, the University announced Tuesday.

Peñalver, currently a law professor at the University of Chicago, taught at Cornell from 2006 to  2012. He was also a leader involved in the Day Hall Takeover of 1993, when students occupied the administration building after a Hispanic art exhibit on campus was vandalized, The Sun reported in 1993.

Prof. John Blume, law, said that Peñalver’s appointment is a “potentially transformative moment” for American legal education.
