Halloween Treats for 2009
October 25th, 2009Every week I tirelessly focus on the Food Pyramid. Fruits, vegetables, grains, proteins, blah, blah, blah. But at the very top of the pyramid is one of my favorite groups, sweets. Granted, the recommended guidelines are to “use sparingly” but its Halloween and sparingly will be temporarily removed from my vocabulary. There is something you should know about me. Not only am I a child at heart, but I have a little devil that sits on my shoulder every time chocolate or candy is in sight. Read More
Well, the Rumors Are True, I Deleted My @$%!!?!#$%?
October 22nd, 2009Whether or not you personally have a Twitter account (I don’t), you probably know what it’s all about. No matter if your 140-maximum-word-count-updates are a way for your business to advertise sales and new products, a venue for you to publicize the fact that you just got an A on a prelim, or the only way your larger than life celebrity status can touch down to your fans, you’re connected. Vampire Diarrhea: Now with shirtless dancing!
October 22nd, 2009It was a week of resentment and pain for any civil war re-enactors who might watch The Vampire Diaries. Holy Anachronisms! We got some flashback action to the 1850s in order to flesh out Damon and Stefan’s history including plenty of contemporary language, a bowler hat, vampire sex, confederate uniforms and totally northern accents. Gossip Girl Catch-up: Hilary Duffster, You Belong in the Dumpster
October 22nd, 2009Oh, the Duffster. Hello, chickadees. Sorry I’ve been so MIA for the past few weeks, but I haven’t been watching as much TV because I (gasp!) have actually been a student. However, that is all about to change, in part because I need to complain—what in the world has happened to Gossip Girl? Read More

October 21st, 2009At the University of Texas, the importance of foreign language requirements came into debate recently. A proposal had been put forth that suggested the College of Liberal Arts reduce the foreign language requirement from 16 credits to 12. Read More
Stress: Just Beat It!
October 19th, 2009Michael Jackson followed me around last week. No, ghosts are exactly my thing but in my fuzzy, stress induced state all I could focus on was Just Beat it, beat it, beat it, beat it. No one wants to be defeated! I think the song was clinging on to the huge vendetta I had against Cornell and its entire faculty. Somehow, every single one of my classes scheduled a prelim during the same week. Read More
Delectable Dinosaurs
October 19th, 2009I love barbeque and have been hearing how good Dinosaur Barbeque is for a long time. Unfortunately, it has always been just a bit out of my reach until recently. On the way to the Syracuse airport, I made a stop to try the famed barbeque and was not disappointed in the least. Read More
Financing Microfinance
October 19th, 2009Yesterday, I made a loan to Ephraim, a man running a hotel/restaurant in Ntungamo, a small town in Uganda where I spent a few weeks last July. He’ll be using my money, along with the contributions of a number of other westerners, to offset the impact of recent high food prices on his business. Read More
Rules Are Not Meant To Be Broken
October 19th, 2009We all want to have faith in our government, in elected officials’ honesty and good intent. We want to believe in our President and in our system of government. President Obama has insisted that any health reform bill he signs will be deficit neutral and will place the nation on a more financially stable path in the long-term. Read More
