All the Democratic speakers emphasized Hillary Clinton’s aptness for presidency. Lifton explained that, unlike Trump, Clinton’s lifetime record of public service demonstrates how the candidate prioritizes serving the public over herself.
“The idea that America has fallen from grace in many ways and in the eyes of the world — I always giggle at the fact that this election has ensured that that has happened for many reasons,” she said. “Certainly, we will have to figure out how to make America great again after this.”
Prof. Daniel Schlozman, political science, Johns Hopkins University, said he believes there will be no political realignments in the election this year, although both parties experienced significant challenges at their conventions.
Data indicates that Clinton supporters are more likely to feel as if women and minorities have too little influence in the United States, while Trump supporters hold more negative, anti-black views than Clinton’s.
The Women’s Resource Center Executive Board, which wrote a letter to the editor in The Sun last week endorsing Hillary Clinton and condemning Donald Trump, said the board felt duty-bound to speak out after enduring months of Trump’s rhetoric.
Twelve students indicated that the candidate they intend to vote for has changed since the beginning of the presidential debates last month. A former Trump supporter said he has since realized that “Trump is not a viable presidential model.”
Corn said she believes Americans need to reconsider who they nominate for president after this election cycle, concluding “both parties need to do some major restructuring after this election fiasco.”
The Democratic Coalition Against Trump formed in May, and is the largest anti-Trump grassroots organization in the country with 117,000 members.
While there has never been any doubt that the Cornell Democrats would support their party’s nominee, the Cornell Republicans took the controversial step of abandoning their party’s standard bearer and endorsing libertarian candidate Gary Johnson last month.
“Right now, we want to prove our concept and hopefully make a difference in the process.”
