After a jury awarded a $2-million settlement to a white police officer who sued the City of Ithaca for discrimination, a federal judge has thrown out the damages and ordered a new trial to proceed, the City of Ithaca announced Friday.

This is part three and four of Friendly Fire, a series chronicling allegations of racism and corruption in the Ithaca Police Department.

A legal battle has produced several thousand pages of testimony and court documents that expose the police department's internal divisions.

Officer Douglas Wright has alleged in a $10.5-million lawsuit that the IPD and City of Ithaca promote policies that “subject male Caucasian employees to greater scrutiny … and treat them as second class citizens.”
