U.S. business schools have experienced drastic changes in the past few years, and the Samuel Curtis Johnson Graduate School of Management –– with help from the Cornell NYC Tech campus –– is no exception, according to professors, administrators and students. 

One administrator said she was  “appreciative for the support of our new neighbors.”

On Monday, just one year after Cornell won its bid to build a tech campus in New York City, CornellNYC Tech welcomes its inaugural class of full-time students. While we are proud to witness this historic moment, the administration should ensure that this new endeavor fulfills, rather than detracts from, Cornell’s responsibility to its students on the Hill.

While the future site of CornellNYC Tech on Roosevelt Island was not damaged by Hurricane Sandy, tech campus officials said provisions are being put in place to protect the campus against future disasters.

University administrators stressed the importance of maintaining the spirit of a land-grant institution as Cornell becomes increasingly entangled with some of the world’s largest multinational corporations.

If the press releases from the University are to be believed, we’re building a Roosevelt Island campus in New York City. It will cost well over a billion dollars to build and feature an enormous lilypad of solar panels.

Roosevelt Island residents voiced their concerns and support for Cornell NYC Tech at a community board meeting Monday night, kicking off a seven-month community review process of the proposed campus.

“Medicine is going … in the direction of better materials science and more electronics, so this is absolutely perfect,” one administrator said. 

The transformation of New York City’s Roosevelt Island took another leap forward Wednesday with the dedication of a park devoted to the island’s namesake, President Franklin D. Roosevelt.

New York Magazine’s architectural critic on Sunday called newly-released plans for Cornell NYC Tech’s campus “inert and forbidding,” saying the project lacks creativity and borrows too much from the architect’s earlier works.
