The little orange pack of crunchy noodles glares at me. I sigh and succumb to the ugly food I’m about to put in my body. Ugh, college. There is just some moments where I have to put my forkful of dignity down and dwell in the bottom of my lowly bowl of ramen. After all, it’s really cold outside and this “soup” is really warm. Out of a moment of pure laziness, I pour the packet of preservatives into the steaming microwaved noodles and crawl into bed to write ¬reconciliation for this dreadful act to the great world of foodies.

Brain Foods

As Cornell students, we’ve all had the overwhelming sensation that our brains just can’t function any longer. The thick fog of exhaustion prevents us from cramming even the tiniest piece of information into our brains. Personally, I’m pretty sick of it. And just to spite my hazy head, I did a little research on what the best foods for thought are.

Chili Concoctions Create Cravings at Cook-Off

On Saturday afternoon, people enticed by the aroma of thirty different types of chili filed into the Commons in Ithaca. The eleventh annual Ithaca Chili Cook-off and WinterFest, sponsored by The Cayuga Radio Group and Maines Paper and Food Service, Inc., was held in downtown Ithaca. Among the 30 restaurants competing for the titles of Best Chili and Wings in the People’s Choice, Vegetarian and Meat and the Official Judging competition, were the East Shore Café, That Burrito Place, and the Statler’s Taverna Banfi.

The Glenwood Pines: A Feat of Strength

As a Junior who had never been to the Glenwood Pines before, I had often heard stories of the famous Pinesburger, but had neglected to actually try one. Last Saturday I was fortunate enough to go there with a few of my friends. It is a bit harder to get to than most places in Ithaca, and you definitely need a car since no buses travel there, but the trip is worth it.

Guys have it easy. Shelves around this time are overflowing with pink frilly cards, over sized heart-shaped boxes of Russell Stover’s chocolates, and cheesy displays of flowers padded with so much baby’s breath that you can barely see the single wilting rose tucked away in the center. All you men have to do is hand over something pink and pretty and the girl swoons, or so says every stereotypical advertisement for Valentine’s Day. So with America's media catering all Valentine’s Day gifts towards women, what on earth is the other side of the relationship supposed to do?

Moe’s Crowned Victor in Annual Food Battle

Cornell students chose Moe’s Southwest Grill as their favorite late-night eatery last Friday at the fifth annual Battle of the Late Night Foods at Willard Straight Hall.

The Class Councils hosted the event, with CUTonight providing partial funding. Alongside members of the Class Councils, members of Delta Kappa Epsilon Fraternity volunteered for the event.

This year’s theme was international cuisine. Students sampled varieties of snacks, including chicken dumplings from Apollo, mini burritos from last year’s winner, That Burrito Place and mini sub sandwiches from Jimmy John’s. Other participating restaurants were Insomnia Cookies, DP Dough, Taste of Thai, The Connection, Jack’s Grill and Domino’s Pizza.

What does an American pop culture pill-popper slash blogger have to write about the United Kingdom? Well, I’m not really sure either. Even though I am studying at the University of St. Andrews, the alma mater of Prince William, English royalty and tabloid extraordinaire, I’ve had a hard time coming up with comment-worthy banter for the Cornell Sun (and for that, I’m sorry, web editors). So with no particular plan in mind, I dove right into the nearest supermarket, Tesco’s, to find my first nugget about which to write, and boy, did I find one – the Twiglet.

Alluring Aphrodisiacs

Ancient Aztecs ate avocados picked from the “Ahuacuatl”, or the “testicle tree” and drank copious amounts of chocolate with the belief that it was a sex elixir from the gods. Casanova binged on pounds of oysters before one of his infamous pursuits for a woman. For thousands of years, food has been hailed to be one of the sexiest ways to succeed in the pursuit of seduction. Aphrodisiacs, foods famed for pumping up libido and desire, have a shady reputation and have yet to be proven to be more than just folklore. But with Valentine’s Day around the corner, it may be fun to indulge in folklore and entice your favorite foodie with some tantalizing “aphrodisiacs.”

We Want iPhones, Too

Annnnnnnnnnd we’re back! It's been a VILLAINOUSLY cold winter, but things at HEROES & VILLAINS are starting to get HEROICALLY hot in here. We’re excited … and you should take your clothes off.

We sighed with relief as Cornell announced that it HEROICALLY escaped the wrath of the VILLAINOUS Bernie Madoff. Although the school may have dodged the bullet on the VILLAINOUS $50 billion Ponzi scheme, we found out it’s not all smooth sailing in Cornell’s investment office. With VILLAINOUS budget cuts being thrown at the school from the state, and an even more VILLAINOUS 27-percent loss in the endowment, Cornell faces some tough times. We just hope the folks in Day Hall can foot the bill for those SUPER-HEROIC iPhones. ’Cause they’re just pimp.

‘Slammin Yamz’ Ice Cream Flavor Added to Cornell Dairy Menu

Cornell food science students have spoken, and their choice for the next ice cream flavor to be showcased at the Cornell Dairy Bar will be “Slammin’ Yamz.” The culinary concoction with a vanilla ice cream base, includes yam puree, molasses, cinnamon and nutmeg, with a marshmallow swirl.

The new flavor that will be sold in the spring contains beta-carotene and fiber. The contest required that the ice cream must be relatively healthy, with less than 4 percent fat.
