Gymnastics Finishes Fifth at ECAC Championships

Nathan Lowry  —  Mar 29, 2010

With the 2009-10 season coming to a close, the gymnastics team is putting the finishing touches on a year that began at a frigid University of Maryland in January and will culminate in the Texas heat on April 15. In between, the Red has endured the ups and downs characteristic of any athletic season, from its victory at the Ivy Classic to its disappointing fourth-place showing at Penn State University. Unfortunately, the Red’s last competitions before Nationals yielded mediocre results; Cornell is coming off less-than-stellar performances at home against Penn and at Temple’s ECAC championships, with a narrow victory over the Quakers and a fourth-place showing at Temple.

Just a week removed from beating Towson in Ithaca, the gymnastics team traveled to the Tigers’ den and was unable to repeat its performance on the road. Despite scoring its highest total of the season with a 190.850, Cornell finished second behind host Towson (192.150).

Cornell’s best performance of the year was good enough to distance itself significantly from third-place finisher and Ivy League rival, Penn. The Quakers put together a 186.400, also their highest score of the season.

John Forman  —  Feb 19, 2010

After registering its highest score of the season in Ithaca, the Red is ready to continue its upward scoring trend as the team heads to the Shelly Calloway Invitational at Towson.

After starting the season by lowering the team score for three consecutive meets, the Red is finally going into a meet on an upswing.

John Forman  —  Feb 16, 2010

It was home sweet home for the gymnastics team this weekend, as it took second place in the Big Red Invitational. With a score of 190.200, Cornell raised the bar and got its highest score of the year, finishing just .35 points behind the meet’s winner, Bridgeport.

John Forman  —  Feb 2, 2010

For the first time since winning the National Championship last year, Cornell gymnastics is back on top with its first out-right winning weekend of the season. Despite having placed ahead of several teams in larger meets, Cornell hasn’t been “first” until beating out Cortland in a dual-meet on Saturday, 189.625-182.875.
