Young talent was exhibited by the women's tennis team during the USTA Invitational in New York City.

The men's tennis team fell just short of winning its first Ivy crown in school history, while the women's team reflects on the year that was and looks forward to competing next year with a strong incoming class.

The battle for the men's Ivy League tennis championship will come down to the final weekend of play.

The second weekend in April was a disappointing one for Cornell tennis, as the men’s and women’s teams combined to lose three of four matches over a two-day span.

With a forecast of sunny skies and temperatures in the high 70’s for the next couple of days, it appears that spring has arrived just in time for the start of the Ivy League tennis season.

While some students will head south next week for a Spring Break filled with drunken debauchery and countless hours spent lying in the sun, other Cornellians will be forced to miss out on this age-old college tradition and will travel to more obscure destinations instead. The wrestling team will head to Omaha for the NCAA Championships; the women’s hockey team will head to Minneapolis for the Frozen Four; and the men’s tennis team will head to Utah and Idaho for some non-conference competition.

Having an undefeated record in an all-time series with one team is pretty impressive; holding that distinction against two teams is even more legit; and hosting both of those teams in the same weekend definitely makes for an interesting couple of days.

The men’s tennis team takes to the courts tomorrow in what will be its first Ivy League match-up of the regular season. The Red (6-3) takes on the Columbia (6-3) in a battle for Ancient Eight bragging rights this weekend at the Reis Tennis Center. The men’s squad last faced off against the Lions back in February, leaving the Ivy Challenge in New Haven, Conn. with a loss to Columbia, 5-2.

The men’s tennis team returns to action this weekend with a pair of matches after sweeping its opponents last weekend at the Reis Tennis Center. The Red (5-2, 0-0 Ivy) defeated Buffalo, 4-3, and Fairleigh Dickinson, 5-2, at home to continue its march towards what could be its first Ivy League title in Cornell history. The men’s squad will host GW on Friday before traveling to University Park, Pa. to take on Penn State on Saturday. The women meanwhile earned a 5-2 victory over Rutgers on Sunday afternoon.

In what will unquestionably be a very busy weekend at the Reis Tennis Center, the Red will host four schools over the next three days. The action kicks off tomorrow when the women’s team takes on Binghamton (3-0, 0-0 AEC). The Red (2-3, 0-0 Ivy) then plays Rutgers (3-1, 1-0 Big East) in a Sunday morning matinee to close out the weekend. While the women are off the courts, the men’s team will face off against Buffalo (2-1, 0-0 MAC) and Fairleigh Dickinson (2-1, 0-0 NEC) in a double header on Saturday.
