Welcome to Eclipse, an eight-page, magazine-style supplement to The Sun. The content of Eclipse takes a cue from many sections of the Sun: news articles on the Cornell’s motto and new “hot ivy” status inspired the front feature; the back page is dedicated to sports, just like the regular edition of the Sun; the Arts pages feature calendars with events perfect for weekend escapes; and two pages of columns are meant to be easy reading.

Deciding on a name for Eclipse took some deep thinking about words related to the sun. Names tossed around at the Sun’s downtown office ranged from The Cornell Daily Moon, The Flare, Horizons, Sunspark and The Weekend Edition. Objections to The Daily Moon? Too corny. And to The Flare? Sounds girly. Horizons? A rehab facility for druggie celebs. Only a hardcore game of Rock, Paper, Scissors could settle the debacle.

Eclipse is a work in progress — please send any suggestions, comments or queries to eclipse@cornellsun.com!
