• Channel Jerry Garcia this Friday night at Castaways, located at 413-415 Taughannock Boulevard in Ithaca, with Lost Sailors, a Central New York-based Grateful Dead tribute band. Bring your tie-died shirt. The show begins at 9:30 p.m.

• The Void Union, playing Saturday night at Castaways, has a roots reggae beat. The band prides itself on the dancability of its music, so be prepared to cut a rug all night long.

• Rochester is rockin’ out with reggae, too, on Friday Aug. 31 at 10 p.m. with the Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad at Water Street Music Hall, located at 204 N Water St in Rochester. The band’s first album, Slow Down, was recorded in Ithaca at the Pyramid Sound Studio. Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad has played with local Ithaca band John Brown’s Body.

• Check out The Great American Trailer Park Musical at the Cortland Repertory Theatre, located at The Little York Pavilion in Dwyer Park on Little York Lake Road in Little York NY. The show takes a comedic look at life at Armadillo Acres, a trailer park in Florida.

• Complement music with a good gallery walk-through. Syracuse’s Warehouse Gallery, located at 350 West Fayette Street in Syracuse, NY, is hosting a multimedia show entitled “Come on: Desire Under the Female Gaze” until Oct. 27. The show explores the sexuality of women in their twenties and mid-thirties.
