Arts Events Around Upstate NY
September 21, 2007 - 12:00am• Comedian R.C. Smith worked as the “warm-up” act for The Tony Danza Show, The Caroline Rae Show and The Ricki Lake Show. Now he works as the “warm-up” act for The Rachel Ray Show. And, he’s also doing stand-up Friday at the Comedy Playhouse, located at 6901 Buckley Rd. in North Syracuse, NY.
• Check out “Reverence for Everyday,” by Michael Mulley, at Kepa3 Gallery, located at 31 Barker Street in Buffalo. The exhibit — named after the photographer’s impression of Buffalo — features mostly new work. This includes several large-scale prints and a video installation. Mulley photographs architecture and urban street scenes. The opening reception for the exhibit is Friday.
• Regina Carter performs a variety of musical styles: from R&B to progressive jazz and from East Indian to Latin to classical, Carter’s got it covered with her jazz violin. She’s performing Friday at The Egg in Albany — contact the venue at (518) 473-1845.
• Hooray for stringed instruments. Brooks Williams plays the guitar, and his music is a little bit folksy and little bit bluesy. See for yourself Friday at the Night Eagle Café, located at 200 State St. in Binghamton. The Night Eagle Café is an unconventional music venue: it has dessert, displays artist works and was once a non-profit organization.
