Arts Events Around the Ivies
October 12, 2007 - 12:00am• This Saturday closes the Galleries for Pixilerations [v.4], a showcase of digital media and interactive performance, minutes away from Brown in Providence. This is the fourth annual installment of a show featuring filmmakers, artists, musicians and other media craftspeople. The showcase takes place in two locations. Some works can be seen at the Rhode Island School of Design. Cornellians should not have trouble finding the second showcase building, The Space at Alice, which is located at 70 Eddy St.
• Known for their jazz repertoire, Cyrus Chestnut Trio is coming to the Miller Theater at Columbia on Saturday, Oct. 13. Starting at 8 p.m., the trio, comprised of Cyrus Chestnut on piano, Dezron Douglas on bass and Neal Smith on drums, will be playing a number of Elvis Presley classics. If a jazz trio playing Elvis doesn’t grab your attention, then I’m surprised you even got through this little blurb.
• The Duke Ellington Fellowship is sponsoring a performance in Yale’s Morse Recital Hall, at 470 College St. The trio includes saxophonist Joshua Redman, drummer Eric Harland and bassist Reuben Rogers. “An Evening with Joshua Redman” starts at 8 p.m. tonight, so finish the rest of today’s Sun and start driving!
• Family Day runs from noon to 5 p.m. this Sunday at Dartmouth’s Hood Museum. In tribute to American life between 1770 and 1960, the museum invites children and their parents to come see paintings of outdoors scenes and people. Household items of earlier times will be on display as well. Visitors will be able to make their own paintings, too. That means if you’re feeling extra cruel this weekend, you can go and try to show up some elementary school kid.
