Arts Events Around the Ivies
October 19, 2007 - 12:00am• Tonight, Brown’s MacMillan Hall turns into a comedy club as sketch comedy group Out of Bounds puts on a performance they call “The Geriatric Show.” The show is named for the group’s claim that their comedy is “hip-breaking.” Whether that is a clever promotional tactic or a warning is to be determined. Either way, the laughter is slated to start at 9 p.m.
• Harvard plays Princeton in football this weekend. This is good for two reasons: 1) one team of those teams will move down in the Ivy rankings and 2) both the Harvard and Princeton Glee Clubs are performing in the same concert on Harvard’s campus. If that’s not an Arts Event Around the Ivies, I don’t know what is. The St. George’s Chapel Choir will join the two groups, starting at 8 p.m. tonight.
• Penn will celebrate its homecoming tomorrow with an open house at the Platt Student Performing Arts House. Not only will there be a tour of the University’s new performing arts center, but from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the evening there will be refreshments and performances. Members of student groups such as PennArts, Pennacle, Pennquest and the Student Performing Arts Community will be in attendance.
• Columbia senior Nadia Foskolou is directing her thesis production this weekend at the Riverside Theater at 91 Claremont Ave., between 120th St. and 121st St. It’s not every day that you get to see a young director start her career; this is a truly special event. “A Flea in Her Ear” is showing at 8 p.m. tonight, Saturday and Sunday, in addition to a 2 p.m. matinee on Saturday.
