• Forget anything you ever learned in the formal education setting. You can find everything you’ve ever wanted to know on stage this Saturday at Syracuse University. The Black Box Theatre presents The Meaning of Life and Other Useless Pieces of Information. The play, by a 2004 SU drama graduate, questions whether there is more to life than what we see. Be ready to start pondering at 8 p.m.

• For any of you who think it will be years and years after you graduate before you actually succeed in your field, go check out The Dave Gross Band Saturday night at the Center for Arts in Homer, just minutes away from Cortland. Dave Gross, at the ripe age of 22, was nominated for “Best New Artist Debut” at the 2007 Blues Music Awards. His band plays a type of music that takes the blues of the ’40s and ’50s and injects swing of the ’20s and ’30s. The music starts at 8.

• Looking to explore a musical world outside of Cornell without going too far? How about going to listen to some African music just minutes away, in Ithaca, this Saturday. Starting at 8 p.m., Vieux Farka Toure, son of Ali Farka Toure, one of the most widely acclaimed African musicians, will be performing at The State Theatre. He will be sharing headlining duties with Tinariwen, who has opened for the Rolling Stones in concerts across Europe. The State Theatre is located at 107 State St.

• It’s very common to display the work of students. SUNY Oswego is treating us to something a little different this weekend. This Sunday at 12:30 p.m. the faculty in the art department will be showing off their work. This exhibition will be presented along with “Captured by the Lens: Selected Photographs from the Permanent Collection.” All the art will be at the Tyler Art Gallery, in Tyler Hall.
