Construction seems to be a constant pain in Cornell students’ behinds. West Campus dwellers are woken up at ridiculous hours by loud machinery and hammering. Students exiting class from Rockefeller have to walk what seems like a mile just to get across the street to Goldwin Smith. Big, brown mud pits have seemingly taken over campus with the promise of new buildings.

Due to varying scheduled finish dates, some buildings will be finished in time for current Cornellians’ use, while others will not. Clark Hall, the new building currently under construction, is not scheduled to be finished until 2010. The new Keeton House, the fourth of the West Campus residence houses, is scheduled to open in August 2008. Weill Hall, the snazzy new Life Sciences building on Tower Road,is scheduled for completion in “early 2008.”

Though construction projects may be a nuisance, no doubt they will result in expanded resources for students, not to mention the many jobs that they have created for local residents.

Despite ugly mud and annoying detours, the construction projects also add a sense of color to an otherwise bland campus this time of year.
