• Interested in supporting a good cause? Does going to what ESPN and Playboy Magazine agree is the “classiest party in the Ivy League” tickle your fancy? Then head on over to 777 Stewart Ave, home of Alpha Delta Phi, tonight for some friendly gambling, music and dancing, all in support of the Family & Children’s Services of Ithaca. Tickets can be purchased at Willard Straight Box Office. Class is in session at 9:30 p.m.
• Tonight is “Orange Night Live: Best of Campus Comedy Night” at Syracuse University. Two of the school’s top improv comedy groups, Zamboni Revolution and Woo Hoo Comedy, will be producing laughs in the Panasci Lounge of the Schine Student Center. Get your first dose of the best medicine at 8 p.m.
• The Drumcliffe School of Irish Dance will perform its World Show this Sunday in the Dowd Theater of SUNY Cortland’s Dowd Fine Arts Center. Not only will it be a feast for your eyes as you enjoy the wonderful dancing, but your brain will benefit also as a moderator will take time between performances to speak about the specific dances. Be ready with your dancing shoes on at 4 p.m.
• This weekend is your last chance to see the 45th annual Juried Student Art Exhibition and spring Master of Arts Thesis Exhibition at SUNY Oswego. The exhibitions, including work from master’s students in graphic design, are currently in the Tyler Art Gallery in Tyler Hall. You can check them out from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today, and 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. tomorrow and Sunday.
Arts Events Around the Ivies:
• The Columbia University Gagaku Ensemble will perform on the steps of Low Library this evening. Their music, which goes from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., is a part of “A Festival of Japanese Music: From Traditional Court Music to Okinawan Pop.” All are welcome to come and enjoy the show.
• “Castaways: The Freshman Musical 2011” is a musical comedy that has been put together 100 percent by Harvard’s freshman class. The writing, directing, production, sound, costumes, set design and acting rests solely on the shoulders of Harvard’s newest batch of students. The play is set on an unfamiliar island where abandoned tourists are trying to create a community and survive alongside the natives. The play will be shown at The Adams Pool Theatre at various times starting tonight and going through next Saturday.
• One of the must-see events of this year’s Ivy Film Festival at Brown is “Fesvial Spotlight: A Masterclass with Martin Scorsese.” Tomorrow from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., Scorsese will be talking about his development as a film maker, what goes into his movies and much more. John Leshner, President of Paramount Film Group, will be there as well.
• This Sunday, the Yale Opera will sing Béla Bartók’s “Bluebeard's Castle” in English and Maurice Ravel’s “L’heure Espagnole.” The latter of the two will be performed in French, as it was originally written. The show starts at 2 p.m.
