Sloping Upward
May 2, 2008 - 12:00amTo anyone reading this paper on Slope Day: you are awesome. We’re not quite sure why you’ve decided to pick up our last issue of the semester, but we certainly hope you enjoy it.
Down here at the office, insanity is happening. Designers are designing, computers are computing and as for the rest of us — well, we’ll soon be quite severely incapacitated. Good times.
This semester has been great for us. We really enjoy doing what we do, and we are truly thankful to have such a committed readership. We hope you appreciated most of what you’ve read over the past few months — we certainly had a good time putting it all together.
This is an exciting time for the field of journalism. The Internet has changed the way we communicate news, and we hope to take advantage of the digital age. We remain committed to accurate and in-depth reporting and commentary, but we’ve begun to evolve into more than just a newspaper. We aim to be a forum for news, a medium that incorporates strong print content with cutting-edge content online.
Over the next semester, you’ll see some new things from us, both in print and online. Many of the changes involve videography and podcasting, while others focus on print design and print content. We have a lot to do.
Tonight, though, we’re done with work. The Sun starts Slope Day a little early every spring, celebrating the last night of publication with some late-night reminiscing and a few smooth beverages. It’s a fitting end to a long semester. You should’ve been here.
As we leave you for the summer, we’d like to thank whoever got up for class this morning and decided to do the crossword to pass the time. You’ll be free soon.
And for all those who read this newspaper over the last semester (even if you’re too drunk to read it today), we’d like to thank you, too. We try our best to put out a great product every day, and we’re thankful for your continued readership. From fan mail to angry letters to online comments, we’re always glad to hear from you.
So keep reading, and keep checking cornellsun.com over the summer. We may be on a beach far, far away, but somehow, we’ll keep you in touch with what’s going on in the Cornell community.
Now go have a drink.
