Welcome to Cornell Diaries, where we print the anonymous recorded lives of Cornell students. While The Sun maintains the confidentiality of each writer, all facts have been verified and all diaries record the true, unedited lives of different Cornell students.
Friday, October 24
7:00 p.m. Rock-climbing with friends at Lindseth. I tie them into “yo-yo climbing” (they climb on a single rope, balance each other out — no belaying involved). They spend at least half an hour bouncing around and cracking up. I name them for the 10-year-olds they really are.
10:00 p.m. Pre-gaming with my roommates. One glass Andre peach champagne. (Never been a big drinker. Or a big person.) Spend some time discussing sex and hooking-up with roommate. Not a highly unusual pastime. Come to the conclusion that having a guy press you up against a wall is … hot.
11:30 p.m. Off to friend’s apartment for her 21st birthday shindig. One shot vodka with Wegman’s brand W-Up. (Still a lightweight.) Watch my friend play beer pong (I have to confess while I have the chance that I really hate beer pong) and catch popcorn in his mouth. Eight in a row, actually pretty impressive. Some dancing in the kitchen. Hit on by a sophomore — ego-boosting, but unrealistic. Birthday girl’s drunk 16-year-old sister is there, being loud and making rather a fool of herself. Kinda funny though.
11:50 p.m. Boyfriend arrives to visit for the weekend. Happy. Then, nothing like a good gettin’ it on session to relieve stress. Still happy.
Saturday, October 25
12:00 p.m. Wake up. Do nothing.
3:30 p.m. Nap. I live an exciting life.
10:00 p.m. To the Cayuga Lodge to see high-school friend (who now goes to I.C.) and his band. Party is “Derelicted” themed (from Zoolander). Basement is decorated with empty plastic bottles, Christmas lights and a disco ball made out of Dixie cups. Residents are wearing dresses constructed from trash bags. Pretty much awesome.
10:15 p.m. Feel kinda awkward at first — we know one girl plus the people in the band, who are rather inaccessible. But band rocks. I.C. contingent is there singing along, rocking out and doing pistols to the sky!! (A hand gesture my friends coined this summer — you’ll be seeing it soon I imagine.) Guy in skinny jeans with mullet is going nuts. Want to tell him that indie is my thing and I still don’t think the mullet qualifies as grunge-pretty.
10:30 p.m. Cornell kids start to arrive and intermingle with I.C. contingent, but they don’t quite know how to handle each other. Vibe turns out well though. Everyone just f-ing rocks out. A Cornell girl asks one of my I.C. friends if he is gay or straight. First thing out of her mouth. But then again, he and my boyfriend were making up ridiculous dances. It’s ok — we’re all comfortable with our sexuality.
12:30 a.m. Tired. Slept most of the day. Decide to go home and sleep some more. First, though, watch Mitch Hedberg’s special on Comedy Central. Hilarious as usual. “If you are flammable and you have legs, you are never blocking a fire exit.” Mourn his untimely death once again. Then, one episode of Planet Earth. Soothing enough to put the boyfriend and I both to sleep.
Sunday, October 26
12:00 p.m. Wake up. I really am a lazy bastard, eh? Breakfast at CTB.
1:00 p.m. Library. Woooo.
6:30 p.m. Date night. Odd choice of night, but he’s only around every once in a while. Viva for dinner. Delicious quesadilla, appropriately named ‘the Groucho.’ Run into high school French teacher. Awkward! Then, to the mall to see Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist with Michael Cera. Who doesn’t love Michael Cera? Movie is funny and adorable, unlikelihood of actual situation not withstanding. Definitely recommend it.
10:30 p.m. To mutual friend’s house for about an hour. Physics homework (eew) and rollickin’ game of Wikipedia. For you unenlightened ones, in Wikipedia everyone has a separate laptop, but all start on the same Wikipedia page (say, Sarah Palin) and then must get to an entirely different page (e.g. Japanese Beetle) using only the links. No searching the page, no leaving Wikipedia, though you are allowed use of the back button. Much, much awesomer than it sounds. I lost several times but did manage to get from ‘The Village People’ to ‘trilobite’ first. Nice!
11:30 p.m. Home. More work. Have procrastinated most of the weekend as usual. Though must say that this was a more event-filled weekend than most. Am definitely not getting to bed on time.
2:30 a.m. Sleep. Finally.
