Nobody ever said Cornell would be easy. Everyone has heard it — we were all the smartest, the most motivated, the most involved students at our respective high schools. And then we got to Cornell, and for a lot of us, that continued. Classes, projects, papers, tests, clubs, sports, family obligations, job searches ... all of these aspects of our stressful, busy lives only became busier and more stressful when we adjusted to life on The Hill.

But that’s not to say that we can’t deal with it and keep moving; most of us have already taken it all into stride. Government prelim, Bengali quiz, two-day sailing regatta and 16 pages due to a printer? No sweat. While our stressful daily lives may raise our cortisol (the stress hormone, for those who didn’t take Intro Bio) levels to five times those of other college students, there are plenty of resources on campus to help us cope with and overcome stress.

This week, Eclipse delves into the stressful lives of Cornellians, from demanding professors to demanding parents, from time consuming classes to time consuming job searches. Eclipse figures out why we have so much stress, how it compares to other students on a national level and what the University is doing to help us deal.

If you’re not so stressed, or if reading about stress will only exacerbate the stress you’re already feeling, check out some lighter reading: a new edition of Cornell Diaries, some hopeful horoscopes and, as always, A’s great advice.
