Welcome back, Cheap Daters! The first week back from Spring Break is tough for everyone, especially if you spent an indulgent week lounging on beaches by day and prowling the bars and downing pitchers of margaritas by night. And now you’re back in Ithaca, where the weather is not so gorgeous, more prelims are around the corner, and it seems like summer is still light years away. If you’re still reminiscing about those lazy days on the beach and crazy Caribbean nights, then this is the Latin-themed column is for you — they’ll spice up your dating life, even in Ithaca.
$ — You and your sweetheart don’t have to fly all the way to Cabo for a decent margarita; just head down to Ruloff’s for Taco and Margarita Night. On Tuesday nights starting at 10 p.m., the Collegetown hot spot turns up the heat and heads south of the border, featuring a wide variety of tacos, chips, salsa and, of course, margaritas. At 50 cents a taco and $6 a margarita, Ruloff’s Taco and Margarita Night is a steal.
$$ — If you and your date want to wow others on the dance floor, why not give Salsa dancing a try? Salsa classes at Cornell range in difficulty from absolute beginner to intermediate. Beginner classes teach the essentials of Salsa and Latin dancing: interpretation of rhythm, basic step patterns, and step and turn patterns. If you’re interested in joining one or more of these classes and sweeping your sweetie off their feet, the cost is nine dollars for a drop-in student rate or $30 for a four-week session. Save $10 by signing up for the four-week session as a couple. Get your dancing shoes on, and be ready to show of your hot new moves in time for summer! Check out www.rso.cornell.edu/palante for more information.
$$$ — If you made the wise choice NOT to sign up for an all-inclusive spring break, you probably had a chance to try out the delicious fare local to the area you visited. If you miss that exotic fare, good news! We have an enormous range of international cuisine right here in town. For authentic Mexican fare, head down to Viva Taqueria on the Commons. Viva serves large portions of fresh, healthy Mexican food at very reasonable prices, and has its own tequila bar where you can relive your Mexican fantasy break. Additionally, Just a Taste will harken you back to your days in Spain with its full menu of tapas and wine. So grab your favorite girl or guy and try a new Ithaca restaurant to relive your sizzling vacation days together.
