Like Cornell, Northeastern has been re-examining its academic structure in the wake of economic problems. Today, they took a major step in restructuring the University, converting two colleges into three.

According to the Chronicle of Higher Education, the University's Faculty Senate voted to convert the College of Arts and Sciences and its College of Criminal Justice into a College of Arts, Media, and Design; and a College of Social Science and Humanities. Deans for the new colleges will be appointed in the fall of 2010.

Most significantly, the criminal justice program at Northeastern is going to lose its status as a college, becoming the School of Criminal Justice as part of the College of Social Science and Humanities. This decision has angered those connected to the program, but reports suggest that the discussion at the Faculty Senate's meeting was positive.
