The men’s lacrosse team has maintained an undefeated season beginning as it moves to 3-0 after a close Saturday afternoon game against Army (1-3) that concluded in the Red’s favor, 12-11.

The victory was taken during the last 41 seconds of sudden death overtime at Shoellkopf Field by senior attacker Ryan Hurley’s 102nd career goal.

The first three quarters witnessed flip-flops in score. The Red made four goals in the first quarter while the Black Knights scored two. Then, it was the Knights that posted two more goals than the Red in the second quarter with their four successful shots; next, the third quarter saw the same stats as the first. This left the score in the Red’s favor by the conclusion of the third, 10-8. Rather than being able to widen the gap during the final quarter, however, the Red fell back in scoring, making only one goal to the Black Knights’ three, tying up the match. Highlights of the game came in the form of 5-0 run between the third and fourth quarters as well as the fact that the Red remained dominant in faceoffs, 20 of 28.

Hurley posted four goals throughout the whole game, including the 100th of jos career, making him the fifth in Cornell history to ever accomplish such a feat.

The 102nd, however, is what pulled the game in the Red’s favor and gave head coach Jeff Tambroni his 100th triumph as a coach. Hurley also earned a share of the title of Ivy League Player of the Week for his seven goals this week.

Following this game, the Red began preparation for today’s match against Binghamton. This competition will take place at 4 p.m., again at Shoellkopf field. In the all-time series with Binghamton, the Red remains undefeated winner, 6-0.

This season, the Bearcats are posting a current record of 1-3, after giving up a 12-7 decision to Drexel on Saturday afternoon.

If Cornell defeats Binghamton today, this will be the team’s tenth consecutive win over an America East opponent. Additionally, this will put the Red at 4-0 for the start of the season, which would be the third time during Tambroni’s ten-year tenure as coach that this occurred.
