This year three members of the men’s hockey team found their names on the list of the 77 players nominated for the 2012 Hobey Baker Award. The honor is given to men’s college hockey’s top player. Junior defenseman Nick D’Agostino, sophomore goalie Andy Iles and junior forward Greg Miller were nominated for the honor.
D’Agostino is tied for the most points (17) on the team with freshman forward Brian Ferlin and Miller. The defenseman has notched five game-winners this season, tying the NCAA lead, while the six power-play goals he scored rank him first nationally among defensemen. D’Agostino was a 2008 draft pick by the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Iles has recorded the second-longest shutout streak in Cornell men’s hockey program history — spanning 213 minutes, 35 seconds over five games. The sophomore netminder posted back-to-back shutouts in December.
Miller led the team last season in scoring and currently sits two goals behind D’Agostino with six for the season. The junior forward has a team-high rating of plus-13 and is tied for the most faceoff wins (195) with senior Sean Collins.
