Scott Pilgrim vs. the World

Thought you were sick of comic book adaptations? Think again! Scott Pilgrim is on a mission to defeat his new girlfriend’s seven evil exes in this vibrant, witty film. Don’t be put off by the seemingly-gimmicky storyline or by your previous impression of Michael Cera. Visual style, soundtrack, acting and a true-to-source script come together to make watching this film a fun and exciting experience. Scott Pilgrim is filled with enough great music, enjoyable action and video game shout-outs to make any guy who grew up in the last three decades heart-happy.

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World is playing Friday, November 5 at 7:00 p.m., Saturday, November 6 at 9:45 p.m. and Friday, November 12 at 9:45 p.m. in Uris Auditorium Sunday, November 7 at 4:30 p.m. and Wednesday, November 10 at 9:15 p.m. in Willard Straight Hall.

Yojimbo

Kurosawa’s 1961 classic follows a lone, masterless samurai as he single-handedly brings down two crime factions terrorizing a Japanese village. Toshiro Mifune embodies cool as the mysterious samurai, consistently outsmarting the criminals. Even those wary of subtitles shouldn’t count this one out, as Yojimbo is funny, clever and action-packed (what more could you want in a film?), and its legacy lives on as the inspiration for Clint Eastwood’s career launcher, A Fistful of Dollars. Essential viewing for any film fan, and a great film even for those not interested in foreign stuff.

Yojimbo

is playing Thursday, October 14 at 9:45 p.m. in Willard Straight Hall and Friday, October 15 at 9:45 p.m. and Saturday, October 16 at 7:15 p.m. in Uris Auditorium.
