Beginning Sunday, the Odd/Even Parking Regulation imposed by the City of Ithaca will go into effect. The parking system is intended to prevent excessive accumulation of snow and debris and to ensure the availability of parking spaces for residents, commuters and visitors, according to a City of Ithaca press release. The system will remain in effect until April 1.

The regulations specify that when City of Ithaca drivers park their cars for the night before midnight, on even-numbered calendar days, they should park on the side of the street with even-numbered addresses. On odd-numbered calendar days, they should park on the side of the street with the odd-numbered addresses. The press release warns drivers to be wary of parking after midnight, as the date changes. Drivers also need to be conscious when the 31st of a month transitions to the 1st of the next month: In this case, there are two consecutive odd-numbered days. When parking on Dec. 31, drivers need to park on the even-numbered side of the street because the next day would be Jan. 1, an odd-numbered day.

The press release states: “If your street is not marked with 24 hour parking signs, and there is only parking on one side of the street, you must move your car to another street on the off evenings.”

Additionally, the City’s 24-hour parking restriction remains in effect during the Odd/Even Parking Regulation. This restriction states that no vehicle can remain parked in the same spot for more than 24 hours. The City considers any vehicle unmoved after 72 hours as abandoned property and liable to towing.

For more information, the City recommends that drivers contact the City Chamberlain’s Office at (607) 274-6580.
