New Search Engine Helps Students Navigate Library

On Tuesday and Wednesday of this week, students walking through the Straight, the atrium of Duffield and Mann Library were given free highlighters, bookmarks and fortune cookies containing interesting facts about Cornell University Library’s new online search engine, Find it!. Fortune cookie recipients also had the opportunity to receive such prizes as $100 cash, iTunes gift cards or Ezra Cornell Bicentennial t-shirts. The Library also put colorful printed mini-towers in computer labs and around campus libraries to promote the new tool, according to Zsuzsa Koltay, special projects librarian.

Common Council Supports Immigrant Rights Resolution

In a show of support for immigrants’ rights, the Ithaca Common Council unanimously passed the Statement on Immigration Enforcement last night in City Hall.

The resolution encourages the Ithaca Police Department to not enforce immigration laws and states that the IPD is “requested to treat the enforcement of federal immigration laws as a function of federal law enforcement agencies.” However, the statement allows for Ithaca police officers to enforce these laws if there is suspicion of criminal activity.

O’Brien has anchored CNN’s flagship morning program American Morning since July 2003, along with co-anchor Miles O’Brien (no relation). Prior to joining CNN, she anchored NBC News’ Weekend Today beginning in July 1999, where she covered stories such as John F. Kennedy Jr.’s plane crash and school shootings in Colorado and Oregon.

Yesterday, students, faculty, Cornell administrators and Ithaca landlords gathered in the Straight to celebrate the grand opening of Cornell’s new Off-Campus Housing Office.

The OCHO used to be located in the Robert Purcell Community Center on North Campus and was part of Cornell University Campus Life. However, due to the recommendation of a specially appointed task force, the office will now be housed at 401 Willard Straight and will be under the jurisdiction of the Dean of Students.
