Letters: Pushing for a program house

Re: “A Solution to Transfer Housing,” Opinion, April 7.
The title of this article is a bit of a misnomer. Mr. Tata, who I have had the pleasure of working with on the S.A., is 100 percent correct in saying that the West Campus System needs to be more nurturing to new members, but that’s not an answer to the transfer student issue. The bottom line is that transfer students, for the most part, are more interested in making new friends than the vast majority of the West Campus population. The only answer in my mind, and why I brought resolution 30 to the S.A. this Thursday, is the reinstatement of an optional Transfer Programming House. This programming house, like the old Transfer Center, would allow transfers to make hundreds of new friends who are facing similar challenges. It is a shame that transfers are being placed wherever there is an empty bed, whether it be on North or West. I could only hope that in the upcoming years, the administration will start paying attention to this rapidly growing population of new students who just want to make a smooth transition.
