Re: “The S.A.: Making Decisions to Whose Benefit?,” Opinion, Nov. 19

Tennessee Williams, one of my personal heroes — and one hell of a playwright — once said, “The only thing worse than a liar is a liar that’s also a hypocrite.” When I read Mr. Brokman’s piece on Student Assembly elections, however, I like to also follow the logic of a different individual: the ancient Roman judge, Lucius Cassius, who would repeatedly ask himself, “Cui bono?” which literally means “to whose benefit?”

Mr. Brokman criticizes Executive Vice President Ola Williams ’10 for vacating his officer position, but not leaving the S.A. However, if Mr. Williams were to leave his seat on the Student Assembly entirely, his position would go to the first runner-up in the Student Assembly At-Large election, none other than Mr. Brokman. Cui bono?
